Field Botanist Position

Midwest Natural Resources (MNR) is currently seeking applicants for an entry-level field botanist position. The ideal candidate has both an academic background with  botanical coursework and field experience. Qualified candidates must have basic experience with the field identification of the regional flora for the Upper Midwest or Great Plains. This position may become permanent based on projected workload and employee abilities and attitude.

Qualifications include:

An academic background in natural resources (BS or higher with degrees in botany, plant ecology), strong technical writing, field experience, GIS/GPS coursework, with analytical skills a plus. Undergraduates may be considered depending on qualifications.

Job tasks include:

  • Botanical Inventories
  • Native Plant Community Classification
  • Assisting with Rare Plant Surveys
  • Assisting with
  • Habitat Assessments
  • Wetland delineation

Further job requirements include:

  • Experience with dichotomous keys
  • Knowledge of Minnesota and Wisconsin flora
  • Technical writing
  • Working knowledge of ESRI software and GPS equipment
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work in extreme weather
  • Enjoyment of the outdoors
  • Ability to work long hours in the field
  • Ability to contribute within a team setting
  • Travel for extended periods of time throughout the field season
  • Must live or be willing to live in the Twin Cities metro region
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
